About the Market

The Mt. Shasta Farmers’ Market is an ag-centric certified farmers’ market featuring fresh produce, meats, flowers, herbs, high altitude heirloom plant starts, insect protein, mushrooms, honey, and eggs grown in the Siskiyou region and offered directly from the growers. Also available at the market are locally prepared foods including artisan breads, Asian food, spring rolls, sauerkraut, Kombucha, handmade chocolate and more. We proudly feature a selection of hand-crafted artisan wares and live entertainment from our local musicians. Presentations for adults and children take place in Parker Plaza every other Monday. We are proud to be a “founding member” of the California Alliance of Farmers Markets.

Market Days

You’ll find us downtown in Mt. Shasta on Monday afternoons from late spring until mid-autumn. Located on “the Boulevard” at the 400 Block of N. Mount Shasta Blvd, market hours 3:30-6:00 pm, rain or shine or snow showers.

The 2019 market season runs May 20th to October 14th.

All the market vendors accept cash, and some accept credit cards.  There are ATMs located nearby to the market.

We offer EBT for SNAP recipients and distribute Market Match to boost CalFresh market purchases of fresh fruit and vegetables. WIC and Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program vouchers are also accepted by most market farmers. We also run a Market Match program to match those benefits up to $20 per market day.

Our Story

The Mt. Shasta Farmers’ Market was founded in 1999 by local farmers John Tannaci and Kirsten Olson. From the very humble beginnings of hosting only three vendors, the market has steadily grown to become the vibrant weekly event that it is today with over 30 vendors, music, and incredible support from the City of Mt. Shasta and the community at large.

Understanding that the market could  benefit greatly from partnering with a non-profit entity, John & Kirsten gave ownership of the market to JEDI, Jefferson Economic Development Institute, at the end of the 2014 market season. JEDI is a local 501.c.3 organization focusing on building and strengthening local businesses and entrepreneurship. In the role of directing the farmers’ market JEDI continues focusing on the founding principles of promoting and growing local agriculture, increasing access to fresh food, and educating consumers. Additionally, JEDI embraces new projects to increase the customer base, educate the community at large and continue to grow the market.

Carrick Plants

Our Seeds: We began by purchasing seeds from Seeds Trust, a 30-year-old seed company dedicated to teaching you to save your own seeds, grow a delicious home garden, and create stunning native landscapes. Seeds Trust seeds are heirloom seeds (passed on from generation to generation), open-pollinated seeds (will reproduce true to form), and selected for high altitude gardens for thousands of extreme gardeners looking for exceptional flavor and trusted reliability in the coldest climates and shortest seasons. We have been growing and saving these high-altitude seeds for three years now.

Our Plants: We now have our own varieties of high-altitude, heirloom vegetable, herb, and flower starter plants that are hardy up to 5000 feet and produce seeds that you can save and grow.

Our Mission: By growing and selling our high altitude, heirloom plants we hope to encourage customers to save seeds and reverse the loss of biodiversity not only in our Siskiyou County backyards but around the world
